BTW awarded approx 145 million US dollars contract of +/-800kV HVDC converter transformers from Southern Power Grid of China for Yunnan Northwest-Guangdong +/-800kV HVDC transmission project

March 28th, 2016, China, Baoding: Baoding Tianwei Baobian Electric Co., Ltd.(BTW) awarded 14 units of HVDC converter transformers from Southern Power Grid of China for Yunnan Northwest-Guangdong ±800kV HVDC transmission project.

The total capacity is 3500MVA.

The total estimated contract price is $145 million.

Ranked first both in capacity and amount.

It is understood, this project started from Dali, Yunnan province, the line route covers Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong provinces, ended in Shenzhen city, Guangdong province. The whole line is 1928 km, which is the longest transmission line project of Southern Power Grid of China. This project intends to use ±800kV transmission scheme, transmission capacity is 500 million kW. The total estimated investment of the project is $3.4 billion, plans to have transmission capacity in 2017. After the completion of the project, annually transmit 20 billion kWh clean power to Guangdong province, which can further improve power transmission capacity of Lancang River upstream cascade hydropower station. At the same time, ease increasingly serious air pollution problems at Pearl River Delta region, effectively promote the transformation of the mode of economic development, to promote the development of low carbon economy.

This project is the first HVDC project awarded to BTW by Southern Power Grid of China after Jinzhong, Guanyinyan HVDC projects, also the first large orders after the completion of the reform of company organization within BTW. This project has laid a solid foundation for the company to vigorously expand grid market in 2016, improve staff morale and also opened up a good situation for production and operation in 2017.
